City and administrative area outlines — display data, assembled 2026-10-15

Visited regions are matched to confirmed place records. A highlighted area means the place was visited, not that every part of the area was explored. Administrative types differ by country. Source geometry is simplified for display; it is not a street map or a survey boundary. Places without a reliable matching outline retain a point. Island, park, province and travel-area records are not converted to city boundaries.

Simplified with shared topology, repaired invalid polygons and provided as longitude/latitude GeoJSON for Leaflet. Municipality, prefecture-city, prefecture-region, county, county-city and special-administrative-region types are retained. The source describes unprojected longitude/latitude but does not independently declare a datum; no GCJ-02 conversion was applied.

Incorporated places and census-designated places retain their source classification. The source retains other Place outlines from the original extraction; the display now draws only matched visited Places. Unvisited Place outlines are hidden to avoid confusing municipal fragments with statewide divisions. Calabasas public center is 18.21 m outside the generalized outline and matches within a 50 m display tolerance. LeChee is left as a point because the existing center and same-name Census place disagree; Logandale, Nipton and O’Brien have no matched independent Census Place polygon in this source. Willow Beach and Yosemite retain their non-city classification.

Shared interior state boundaries are displayed as unfilled lines above visited Places. Derived from 50 states plus the District of Columbia, with each segment verified to belong to exactly two state polygons. Alaska and Hawaii have no shared interior US state line; their coastlines remain on the country base map. NAD83 (EPSG:4269) transformed to WGS84 (EPSG:4326), coordinates rounded to 5 decimals. No extra coastline or international-border overlay. Data and detailed provenance: ./geo/US-state-lines.geojson and ./geo/US-state-lines.SOURCES.txt.

South Korea: Natural Earth 10m administrative data, 2021, via geoBoundaries. Public domain. Seoul uses the special-city boundary; neutral regions retain administrative-region classification.

Modified: repaired/simplified geometry and projection. Jakarta combines its five mainland administrative cities; Tangerang uses Kota Tangerang, not the regency or South Tangerang. Bali and Riau Islands remain non-city points.

Singapore: Urban Redevelopment Authority, Master Plan 2014 subzone boundary, derived 2016 ADM0 via geoBoundaries. Open Data Commons Open Database License 1.0. Singapore is classified as a city-state. The derived Singapore database is available under the same ODbL 1.0 at ./geo/SG.geojson; modification is simplified metadata and numeric rounding.

Malaysia: points retained while matching city outlines are unavailable. Mukim/subdistrict or state boundaries are not substituted for city boundaries. Vietnam is a confirmed country visit with no confirmed city records.

World countries: Natural Earth 1:10m v5.1.2, public domain. Small islands preserved; larger polygons simplified with shared topology. Geometry and city centers are projected together by Leaflet 1.9.4. Antarctica is omitted from the travel display; the original world source file is retained.
